Who we are

We are an international mix of people: English, Scottish, Dutch, French, Italian, American, Canadian, Santa Domingan, and Australian who love the theater. We have produced three plays in three years, all very different and all very well received. Some of us are trained and working as actors, some of us are acting or working backstage for the first time, some of us can sing and some of us can dance but we all have a good time putting English-language theater on stage. The talents of englishtheatertorino are not only limited to the acting cast, but include playwrights who have contributed pieces to our repertoire, graphic designers, scene designers and painters, choreographers, musicians, costume creators and sound and light technicians.

In the autumn of 2000, our group, 'english theater torino' was born as an english-language acting-workshop for young people in the church hall. It was the idea of Jean Rossi, who convinced her friend, Fay Prendergast, who is both an actress and a drama therapist, to teach the course. Jean also invited Connie Quercetti to join, who had studied theater as a university student in the US. The next spring, the workshop turned into two courses: one for youth and one for adults. And our group moved out of the church hall into a rented rehearsal room along the Dora river. After three years of workshops we decided it was time to produce a play.

In February of 2003 we presented the American play, "Steel Magnolias" which tells the story of six women who live in a small town in Louisiana and congregate in the local beauty parlor where all the action happens. The play succeeded beyond anyone's imagination. The little theater was packed with people and the crowds were very excited to see plays in English.

In May 2004 we presented "An Evening of Theater in English" a program of six vignettes, both serious and humourous with a tap-dancing finale. Again, the audiences were enthusiastic and we had now created a new trend of theater in English. And in 2004 we added a complimentary aperitivo on the terrace overlooking the hills of Torino.

In May 2005 we returned with a musical-mystery two-act play "8 Women and a Murder" adapted from a popular French film. For this show we adapted songs and dances to fit the story. Again, our sold-out audiences raved.

Englishtheatertorino is an international theatre company performing in English for the enjoyment of the English speaking people of Turin, whether school children, university students, language students or the ex-patriot community.
